Japan’s Nikkei crashes almost 1 percent by midday

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s Nikkei fell almost 1 percent by midday on Tuesday after poor industrial output data sapped investor appetite for tech issues and as profit-taking hit recent gainers such as Nippon Steel Corp.
Data released just before the opening showed output fell 1.6 percent in October from a month earlier, far below economists’ expectations for a gain of 0.1 percent.
