NTT develops SMELLIVISION
Better than John Waters Smellivision, Japan’s NTT has either developed a new bong or a really ugly lava lamp. Just look at the expression on the computer geek’s face.

I find this article a bit shocking.
I always thought that the Japanese people don’t like perfumes or strong fragrances. They certainly make comments on public transport if a woman wears the stuff.
A friend of mine was thrown out of a Sushi restaurant in Tokyo for wearing Calvin Klein’s Eternity!
They don’t like scents over there, I guess.

Oh, Japanese like scents–just not gaijin kusai (foreign stinks). I have consulted for the past years for two of the major international fragrance and flavor companies in Japan. Nearly every* household cleaning product and cosmetic has a scent added in Japan as in the rest of developed world (if for no other reason than to mask the odor of the active ingredients).
* About 99.9%
Japanese don’t have a history of wearing scents to mask poor hygiene, hence your friend’s being thrown out for Calvin Klein’s Eternity. On the other hand, incense sniffing in a classical Japanese “art” like flower arrangement. In fact the objection Japanese have against foreign perfumes is that they often use sandalwood and spice undernotes in their fragrance but sandalwood is for funerals and spice smells are equated with evil foreign food, ha, ha.

This is just the beginning. Predicted in 1993. One can envision an integrated wireless 3D unit.
