Last year Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi visited the Yasumi shrine, which enshrines Class-A war criminals on New Year’s Day and justified his visist as a, “traditional Japanese practice. ”
Sheeeee-it: That so-called traditional Japanese practice does NOT mean anything to Japanese any longer. I will gladly give a buck to anyone who can find a Japanese person who actually believes in the Shinto or care about the shrines as long as that I can receive one cent for every Japanese that doesn’t know anything about Shinto.
But hey—-it’s the “thought” that matters. In this case, the “thought” is that Japan’s facsist state of WWII still needs to be revered. The only way Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi has remained in office is by pandering to the ultra-rightwing and visiting the WWII war criminal shrines.
