Many people would say: “So what? Who cares if the Japanese imperial household ‘adopts’ an emperor?”
However, having an Empress would lead the way to woman’s right to some small degree and set a better example for Japanese raising daughters to take over their family business (a huge problem in modern Japan with negative birth rate).
