During a press conference about the annual Tama Zoo Escape Drill, aspokesman for the Zoo, Mr Gochi, unwittingly revealed that not every year’s drill had been successful and that a number of fake animals had in fact escaped.
Authorities have kept secret the number of fake animals on the loose, for fear of sparking a public panic, although it was also revealed that some of those animals have been taunting the Zoo by sending postcards and photographs of themselves enjoying their freedom.

Eric the elephant, escaped in 1979; Oliver the owl, escaped in 1968; Hillary the hippo, escaped in 1973.
Tama Gochi stated that one year, the rosters were wrong, “that year, very bad,” explained Mr Gochi, fake animals given roster to escape Monday but the Zoo staff have roster for Wednesday. “Fake animals have very big head start and some get to airport?”

Mark the Mucaw, escaped in 1982, believed to have made it to the U.S.
The government has promised a full inquiry.more
