The worst of all sushi is “uni” raw sea urchin. But Japanese love it and several countries have developed an industry selling the Japanese this pest at high prices…until now.
Actually, uni looks worse than it tastes. In clean water at a remote beach, I’ll eat uni off the end of my diving knife raw with only sea water as flavoring. However, after a few days on ice in the bildge of a fishing trawler, uni tastes nasty as far as I’m concerned.

Russian producers can ship their sea urchin roe— a delicacy in the Japanese market — for a fraction of the costs that companies in Newfoundland and Labrador incur….the sea urchin industry, which was launched in 1992…the same year that the northern cod moratorium was imposed ….we saw four or five fairly good years, and now the last two or three have really been in a tailspin,” ….Sea urchin harvesting is an expensive and labour-intensive business, requiring divers and expert handling to insure that roe are shipped fresh to Japan…

Nearly 20 percent of Japanese consider NHK unnecessary, a survey conducted by the NHK Broadcasting Culture Research Institute has found…..viewers’ opinions of the broadcaster have dropped from previous levels…..scandals, such as a row over program content …drop in support……blah, blah, blah…
The deal here is that everyone “must pay” for Japan’s public TV, NHK.
Japanese broadcast law states that TV owners should pay the NHK fees but there’s penalty for noncompliance. Nobody has ever been prosecuted for not paying NHK. However, there’s no way to stop the NHK guy come ringing every Sunday morning. Sheesh.

Today, Japan’s emperor and empress are flying to Saipan to pay homage to these war dead at Banzai Cliff which is called that after the cry ”long live the emperor” that the soldiers shouted before throwing themselves over the edge.

Ok, ok, I sort-of lied about butthead Ishihara being killed. It was not Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara but a different racist boss “Ishihara” who was stabbed to death.
But hey, it’s not a large stretch of the imagination that governor Ishihara could get stabbed since he’s constantly insults Chinese and Koreans in Japanese by calling them the equalivant of n*gger. The scarier thought is that governor Ishihara is wildly popular for making his continual racist comments.
Chinese teacher stabs Japanese boss to death
A 37-year-old Chinese man in the city of Shizuoka, Japan, was arrested Saturday after fatally stabbing the board director of a language school where he taught, police said.
The suspect, identified as Li Zhizhong, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of killing Yasuhiko Ishihara, 59, at the Shizuoka Japanese Education Center.
