Synthetic musk found accumulating in marine life
TOKYO—A type of synthetic musk, suspected of disrupting enzyme balance and acting like a hormone, has accumulated in various marine species, researchers said Saturday. As I’ve mentioned before in “The Attack of the Endocrine Disrupters,” these nasty “musk” compounds are put in many personal care products. There’re hormone-like (endocrine disrupting) compounds that are found in Japanese tap water as well as in seafood. Japan’s food chain is so clogged with toxins that disrupt normal balance of hormones that it’s common to catch hermaphrodite fish from ponds and lakes here.
