April launch date for 20 years in the making for “e-paper”
E-paper: Flexible paper-like computer screens that can that you can roll up into and put in your pocket has been the Holy Grail of electronics manufacturers for decades.
“Where can I buy this ‘electronic paper’?” you might ask.
And for decades, the answer has been “soon” as I reported in News.3Yen.com’s Vapor-tech: electronic paper.
Well now I can say APRIL!
Bendable and colourful: Japan makers pursue e-paper
…electronic paper (e-paper) technology….offers an alternative to TFT LCD displays, as the technology features high brightness and contrast ratios, has strong colour reproduction and consumes less power.
…..at the Tokyo International Forum (July 20-21), Hitachi presented a 13.1-inch monochrome e-paper display that also featured WLAN support and a secondary battery pack. The company is planning to bring it to market at a price lower than LCD panels next April, with the focus being on applications such as signboards at public buildings…more…

Ah yes, “e-paper,” the vaporiest of vapor-tech indeed. I’m impressed though that actual progress seems to be taking place in the melding of silicone, computational advances, servo-motors, and anime-derived imagery in the ongoing horse-drawn-carriage-ification of the Japanese woman for all the otaku out there.
