Japanese Hamster Sausages: 80% rejected tuna, 10% pork trim, and 10% lard
Japanese still like to snack on fish sausages
TOKYO— Fish-meat sausages, which were first marketed in Japan by Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd. in 1952, are still a big seller….The company decided to sell them as it was facing sluggish exports of canned tuna. It hit upon the idea by thinking about the tubular rolls of grilled fish it had begun producing before the war.
It came up with a recipe combining 80 percent tuna, 10 percent pork and 10 percent lard…..
As I said before in the report “Strawberry Milk†sausages in all supermarkets in Japan, I cannot imagine why fish sausages haven’t been a big hit outside Japan. Nippon Suisan Kaisha tried a ‘Seafood Frank’ in the States but the company dierctor, Norio Hosomi whines that, “combination of fish meat and sausage could not be accepted” hee, hee. Well at least it sounds better than their Hamster Sausage.
