Boxing for Bobby Fischer
Interview with Bobby Fischer.”..the old chess is finished as a competional sport for professionals… it has lost its challenge as a competitive sport on professional basis because it has been computerized, and just a question of memorising variations…”
When last we heard of Bobby Fischer in April, he had escaped nine months of Japanese emprisionment for passport violations and had left to Iceland with his Japanese domestic partner, Miyoko Watanabe. Bobby Fischer, the best known of all chess players, is a former world chess champion who has not worked or played any chess for years.
Here’s a perfect job venue for the ex-Japanese Bobby Fischer: World Chess Boxing….That’s the combination!
World Chess Boxing Organization…a new sport … No. 1 thinking sport and the No. 1 fighting sport, and in the combination of both. … In a contest there shall be 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer. As soon as the time runs out the game is over. A round of boxing takes 2 minutes. Between rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear.
Does that sound crazy? Maybe.
However, it fits his general theme as, “Bobby talks about his kidnapping in Japan… conspiracy by the Japanese and US Governments… his detainment and the harsh conditions … there’s ‘no law against saying or declaring that the moon is made out of green cheese.’”
