Japanese Teacher — Up your nose!
Teacher accused of bullying tried to shove chalk up student’s nose
YOKOHAMA — A junior high school teacher under fire for “bullying” a 14-year-old student tried to shove chalk up the student’s nose….The principal of the school in Yokohama’s Tsurumi-ku and the education board confirmed the teacher’s actions at a news conference …
….Sources close to the teacher said he often yelled at other students… “He instructed the students violently, intimidating them…” …more…
Actually, cramming chalk up a bad student’s nose is the least of abuses Japanese teachers do with regularity. About half of school bullying —called ijime (ã„ã˜ã‚) — is sanctioned by teachers in Japanese schools. The dark side to Japan’s hierarchical society is that “proper” control by the group is supported by the oppression of the weaker.
