Silver and gold Hello Kitty euros

Gold, silver euro coins with ‘Hello Kitty’ images to be sold
TOKYO, Japan—Coin-importer Taisei Coins Corp. and Sanrio Co. … will jointly sell three euro coins with images of the latter’s ”Hello Kitty” character on them, beginning on Dec. 5. A 1-ounce gold coin with a face value of 50 euros will cost 168,000 yen. A quarter-ounce, 10-euro gold coin will cost 52,500 yen, and a 1.5-euro silver coin will cost 8,400 yen. Images on the coins… depict ”Hello Kitty” characters enjoying life in Paris.
As my wise friend and sempai the right honorable Steve Bildermann says, “You can never have enough ‘Hello Kitty’, ooooK!”
However, WTFBBQ! These Hello Kitty coins even come with their own designer traveling luggage.

That’s a peculiar exchange rate Kitty’s got worked out there. 25 to 45 times face value and all you get is luggage for coins?
And the bandwagon rolls on…

Sorry. No foreign credit cards are accepted on the Hello Kitty website at Sanio.co.jp. Ask J-List to order it for you.

because of copyright problems the Frechn Mint had to sell nearly the whole mintage (~90-95%) to Japan. So these coins are really rare outside of Japan. If these prices are too expensive for you then you will wonder how much they cost in Europe (e.g. if available in a shop about 850 Euro for the 10 euro coin). But you can still purchase some of these coins directly and cheaper if you are not in Japan, Germany or Italy. The 10 euro gold coin is sold out at the French Mint. If you are in Japan, I think, it’ll be cheaper for you to purchase the coins at the official japanese sites.
