Return of the “SEMEN SHIP” TV commercial for Japan Navy recruitment

Way back in September of 2004, the Japanese Navy —officially called the JMSDF (Japan Marine Self-Defence Force)— ran a gay-as-in-happy TV commercial to boost recruitment in Japan.
For some strange reason (hee, hee), that YMCA-style “SEMEN SHIP” (sic) song-and-dance on the ship of the deck of a carrier was quickly pulled off their website but now….
IT’S BA-A-A-ACK!
YMCA SEAMAN SHIP DANCE“Seaman ship” video from the official JMSDF website.

recruiting video for the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.

The lyrics are:

We have seaman ship, seaman ship, for love;
We have seaman ship, seaman ship, for peace;
(Japanese voiceover: I love Japan. I love peace. Maritime Self-Defense Force.)
We have seaman ship, seaman ship, for love!
Note the cute little hip swivel after “for love”!

And it the JMSDF pulls that video again, check out the new Japanese movie “Yamato: The Last Battle” . The movie premered December 5 and is doing well at the at theaters here despite the fact the mighty Yamato was sunk at the start of a suicide mission to “rescue” Okinawa without ever firing a shot in battle. According to Variety magazine, Yamato, “likely to become the No. 1 Japanese hit of 2005. Last weekend, its first, Yamato grossed $2.9 million on 265,542 admissions at 324 screens, compared with a $2.7 million two-day total for King Kong.”

    Ok, but I was talking about it’s “No. 1 Japanese hit” in terms of box office.” Foreign box office sales are expected to be nil for right-wing Japanese movies such as “Yamato: The Last Battle” that glorify the suicidal waste of Japan’s days as part of the Axis.

    …..But Kong failed to unseat Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Japan, where it arrived in the No. 2 spot with $2.6 million…
