robots.net :….a new Japanese robot movie with English Subtitles that was recently released. The story goes that Hinokio is an avatar for a Japanese boy who withdraws after his mother dies. He sends the remote control bot his father invented to school sort of as a distance-learning device and he experiences the world through the robot’s eyes. The boy even develops friendships and a love interest through the bot…
The plot of a boy is injured and his mother dies so he denies rehabilitation from the shock, lives with the wheelchair and refuses to go to school seems a bit thin on motivation to me….But hey, it’s a Japanese robot movie so it’s gotta be fun.
Last March on cinema.3yen.com, “Muken”reviewed the Japanese release of HINOKIO noting that, “Robots are finally getting some in Hinokio, a “galactic love story†about a handicaped kid, his robot and various girls. It’s a kid movie so don’t get your hopes too high though.” Judging from the trailers, Muken-san seems right. View the trailer here on the official hinokio-movie.com website.
Now I need to figure out why HINOKIO has the misspelled tagline “inter galactic love(c)” when there’s no space ships or travel in the movie (and there’s no space in the word “intergalactic”). Hmmm
