WIRED: In Tokyo, girls who want to get their geek on head for Otome (Maiden) Road in trendy Ikebukuro. Retail stores on the 200-meter commercial strip cater to the emerging subculture of onna otaku (she-nerds) by stocking femme-friendly comics, gadgets, and action figures instead of makeup and clothes. ….
10 Ways to Identify an Onna Otaku...more...

Problem: That Wired magazine photo of an “Onna Otaku” (女 オタク) is waaaay too cute for a true Japanese fem-geek. Although Japanese geek girls are far cuter than North American ones (nobody in Japan gets over 200 lbs/90kg), plenty of onna otaku” are so withdrawn that they are totally unengaging. I’m always amazed while I’m at Otome Road in Ikebukuro mentioned in the artical above that many of the “reject” girls there, would be considered “hot” in America. You’re right..The girl in the picture from Wired is way too hip.. She looks too confident. She should slouch some..

    “Slouch”?
All Japanese are supposed to slouch, hee, hee. It’s called “nekozai” (rounded cat back).

Having a posture that’s too upright is considered being too stuck up (and terrible form when wearing kimono).

So, how do you find the geek girl of your damp damp dreams?

Ikebukuro is confusing place to go on a girl geek hunt.
The location is less obvious than Akiba’s pervert stores (just like a lesbian bars are less obvious than boy bars).

There are two places in Ikebukuro to find them:
The west exit of Ikebukuro station headding to the universities has been an place for odd girls for more than 20 years. Also "adjacent to the Sunshine City building complex, one comes to the mecca of female geekdom: Kei Books"—Geek Girls
Read my drinking buddy, Ryann, of MSN-Mainichi News:
    Otome Road
Yaoi girls, never miss Otome Road!
Sankei Web reported the current trend of Ikebukuro district where six doujinshi shops gather almost in a row. They mostly deal doujinshi for women in contrast with Akihabara where many otaku shops aim at male customers. When the manga information magazine, Puff, introduced the area, it was called Otome Road….
Access: 10-minute walk from the East exit of JR Ikebukuro Station. Otome Road faces the famous shopping building, Sunshine City.

At last! A place where I can find kindred spirits! And perhaps pickup an Akiba sugar daddy!
