‘Ode to Summer’
Yes, yes, I know that this CG film is Chinese not Japanese. And yes I know that confusing Chinese art for Japanese is as retarded mixing up the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel for Russian Icons but…Damn, the nishiki carp featured in this CG film are so typical of the koi swimming in the park outside my window next to the Denenchofu creek.

And if that’s not culturally confusing enough, here’s a Chinese program that was broadcast on a local Japanese TV show showing synchronized goldfish swimming (mpeg, 3 MB) via WFMU.org.

This animation is so NATSUKASHII as we say in rather untranslatable Japanese meaning to ‘wax nostalgic’.
I used to have carp ponds in the US but now I live the Land-of-Concrete, Japan. I suppose looking at the koi in my park is as close as I will ever owning some again. ‘Saaaa, natsukashii.‘
