‘Health-full’ Japanese machines
A couple of days ago when I wrote here on the 3Yen about Japanese JOBA(tm) vs RodeoBoy(tm), I was amazed by all the other doubious “health” products I found. The same company, Daito Electric, that sells the RodeoBoy horseback riding exercise machine, now is selling a new clone, the SURFBOY(tm), which is nothing more than the 29,000yen RodeoBoy with a “surfboard” put on top of it as you can see in the photos below.

The official website of the Surf Boy exercise machine is a woot and even though it’s only 29,800 yen it looks like a too-obvious repositioning of a product.

However, repositioning of dubious products with deceptive claims seems to be Daito Electric’s forte’. For years Daito Electric sold the Goldfish exercise machine (金魚体操 S W I N G SLIMMER), with laughable TV commerials showing middle aged women on their back being shaken by the exercise machine to simulate the health benefits of flopping about like a goldfish out of water.

Goldfish exercise in Japanese is “kingyo undo” is described by the website Surge of Chi Exerciser as letting, “your body respond to the movement of your feet as the exerciser swings them gently and rhythmically from side to side… Adjust the speed with the dial..finding the rhythm which suits you best…Experience the release of tension as the wavelike motion moves through your body.”
