‘Pachi-Pachi’ ‘Pachi-Pachi’ (Japanese bubblewrap)
![]()

“Pachi-Pachi” is the sound of popping Japanese bubblewrap which is mysteriously called “aircap” (エアーキャップ ) in Japanese. It turns out that AirCap (r) is the trademarked name for the bubblewrap and like in English bubblewrap, aircap is rapidly becoming a genericized trademark for this type “air cellular cushioning material” as it’s technically called.
However, looking at the Tokyo fashion show picture of designer Hussein Chalayan, all I can think of is Pachi-Pachi,Pachi-Pachi –pop, pop, pop. I guess I will have to confine my efforts to this online, Pachi-Pachi Japanese flash game and use the “manic mode” for more satisfaction.
Play it now…

Oops. I didn’t mention the designer because the Turkish Foreign Ministry didn’t directly attribute it. The bubble outfit was created by British-based Cypriot Turkish designer Hussein Chalayan for his showing of the 2007 Spring/Summer collection at a Tokyo hotel 12 October 2006 as part of the “Turquality” promotion I wrote about before.
More details of this show and the whole of his work and can be found at this website at dexigner.com.
And there was a 10-year retrospective of his work at the Groninger Museum.
