Do da dooooo, da dooooo, da do….Dokaka rules!

Dokaka animated
Dokaka is a hyper-atomic powered human rock band. As Wikipedia describes, he performs all his music by multitracking his own voice— He generally mimics one instrument per track such as making the bass part to a song, then records himself mimicking the drum part in sync with the first recording, and so on.
Listen to his cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit on his myspace site.
Dokaka’s real name is Shinya Ihara and he works in a video store here somewhere in Tokyo. He’s taken a lot of time off to pursue his musical dreams such as appearing on Björk’s Medúlla (2004) and doing the soundtrack to the video game We ♥ Katamari (2005).
Now watch and listen to this music video of Dokaka singing all the parts of Iron Maiden & Slayer tunes: “Do da dooooo, da dooooo, da do, dooooo, do doooooo, da do dooooo…”

Finally you can see the man himself in a small club in Tokyo.

Yep, it’s a shame Dokaka can’t find an outlet or venue for all his energy and talent. He has tried for years to form a group–he’s put up ads in the trade magazines and online with no luck—nobody can match his manic magic. His work on Björk’s Medúlla (2004) and the soundtrack to the video game We ♥ Katamari (2005) looked like he made a breakthrough, but sadly he’s now back to working in the video store and ‘playing with himself’ in his one-room apartment in Shin-Okibo, Tokyo. Meh.
