Japan launches probe of LCD makers
MSNBC. Tue, Dec 12 2006 7am
Japan’s trade watchdog is investigating Sharp, NEC, South Korea’s LG.Philips LCD and other liquid crystal display manufacturers for allegedly agreeing to cut output to curb falls in panel prices….more…
I came up with many snarky alternatives headlines for Sharp’s woes including:
Sharp Dulled and Sharp Unsharpened.
However, you gotta hand it to Sharp Corporation–more than decade ago they bet the farm on LCD screens and won. In Japan, Sharp is known for its poorer quality compared to the other Japanese brands and the company was really struggling in the early 90s. But their bet on LCD tech paid off big….until this year. In 2006, all the LCD makers have suffered plunging prices and massive inventory buildups after overestimating demand. No wonder they tried price fixing and no telling what will happen next.
