A bottle with a bite: Japanese horseradish soda

Japanese horseradish soda

Horseradish soda? Why not?

We drink ginger ale, which can be rather spicy in its original/traditional recipes.

It’s not a stretch to use Japanese green death, WASABI horseradish, to make a soda pop with a little more of a bite to it.

According to the always the informative Octopusdropkick website, the Kimura beverage company is now offering both wasabi- and curry-flavored sodas. Refer to this machine-translation of the official Kimura new product announcement.

Kimura, the company that makes wasabi soda, is best known for its legendary “Ramune“, that drink that comes with a glass ball stuck inside the bottle forcing you to drink it a special way. It’s been a part of Japan’s history for over a hundred years, appearing in the 19th century—the name is a mis-pronunciation of “lemonade”— and achieving worldwide fame with the rise of anime and manga fandom. This year Ramune was chosen for the World Gold Medal–‘Monde Selection Grand Gold Metal 2007′.

And, don’t miss my previous reports on the wacky drinks of Japan such as:
