Wacky signage and silly names like boobooSki and boobooBeach are one of the great joys of Japan. There’s always logical reason for such names as “booboo” (normally meaning a stupid mistake or blunder). In this case, “booboo” (buubuu ブーブー) is the sound that a pig makes in Japanese….So course, they would want to name their ski resort and beach service company “booboo”. The same company’s golf division, boobooGolf, somehow sounds even more amusing.
However, I’ll let the president Mazda be the voice of reason and he has explained that when, “children imitate the sound of a car…in Japanese, we think cars sound more like ‘Boo-Boo’.” So, boobooSki actually connotes the feeling of “zoom zoom” skiing.
