Here’s a game of robot rock-paper-scissors, Japanese style. In this case, “Scissors” cuts “Rock.” Ouch!

This “robot sports event” is part of the Japanese government’s lame attempt to make Tokyo’s Akihabara district into high-tech theme park rather than the pervy otaku theme park that it has become. The government runs official tours of the “High-tech Pop Culture Experience” that the 3Yen reporter, KuangGrade, quips should be called, “Let’s spend money at Yodobashi” (a walmart-ish electronics superstore).
Also, check out the machine translation of the robotics blog of Nippon Engineering College who created the humanoid robot “Karfe Lady” that plays “rock-paper-scissors.” They seem to be a fun lovin’ bunch of humanoid robots in these photos, hee, hee.
