Suicide attack jackets for Momusu

Like an underage Hello Kitty who has been huffing helium and laughing gas, Morning musume aka “Momusu” have been flogging their hyper-cute act of squeaking and dancing to upbeat-if-formulaic J-Pop melodies for a decade. Momusu has been around so long that the “group” is in its Eighth Generation (members are graduated/fired as as they look older than twelve).
Another odd feature of the longevity of the Morning Musume is that they have now collected have lots of somewhat older, forever-bachelor type of fans. According to my pro-photographer friend here in Tokyo, the incomparable Masa of MasaMania.com, “Some extreme fanatic fans wear Tokkou fuku (suicide attack jacket)…maybe this needs some explanation. Tokkou means suicide attack” more commonly called Kamikaze in the West. Check out Masa’s photo essay on these suicide attack Momusu fans (sorry, harmless registration is required).

If you have a chance at looking at the last two H!P concert DVDs (January 2007 and July 2007), check out the fans. Use stop-action if you must and go frame-by-frame. It cuts across all ages brackets, and there are more female fans than you might think. It’s not just dirty old men out there.
