Pinktentacle.com has an amusing post about Toshiba’s new, “ApriPoko robot learns to work the remote” for your TV so you have somebody else to nag you about your hogging the remote control.

The most obvious question about the ApriPoko is “WHY”?
Voice recognition with rudimentary intelligence should be built into the TV and not some nagging robot. This is almost as silly as the earlier 3Yen report, Robot winos for Japan that covered Toshiba’s ApriAlpha® prototype with much the same features. See…

Toshiba robot can do the job of the remote control
…Such interaction has proved to work well in trials, particularly with people in their 60s, who may be feeling as if they were teaching words to their own grandchildren, Toshiba said.
“The ApriPoco is believed to be useful for elderly people who tend to shun the complicated functions of household electronics,” the company said.
Toshiba hopes to develop the robot for a commercial launch but has not yet decided when it might go on sale….
