Problem bigger than that...

Ipod use Lithium Polymer batteries, like mobile phone, computers (remember the Sony battery scandal) and a lot of other Gizmos.

LiPo batt are a short-life rushed-to-the-market technology. It's commonly used for demanding RC like planes or electric helicopters. Except that in RC field, user know that LiPo are spears of damocles. And many not carefull enough have seen their model catching fire in mid-air and crashing into oblivion.

With the IPod and other gadget, consumers are not aware of any of the drawbacks. They just stay happy idiots who think everything in the world is a turnkey solution and never present any risk. And then go OMG OMG WTF WILL SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN when the shit hit the fan...

Just have to wait a little more, unlike previous batt technology, LiPo will certainly totally disappear when an alternative are found. For now research aim toward Lithium Hydrogen. Which is like taking a medium problem, and turning it into a bigger clusterfuck (think Hindenbourg). But A123 techno like in DeWalt pack seems much more promising.

This outcry has been brought to you by the many non-Apple companies who are envious as hell and angry at Apple for upsetting applecarts in Japan, like trying to sell music CDs for less than the $30 that they cost here.
