Long odds on Miss Japan
When Riyo Mori of Japan (R) won the 2007 Miss Universe contest everybody in Japan was very happy (since Japan only won once before in 1959). Hopes have been raised in Japan for more wins. This year’s Miss World Japan, Mizuki Kubotera, has been chosen for her conforming more to Japanese ideal than the choice of Miss Universe Riyo Mori who was chosen for her self-confidence and statuesque beauty that would specifically appeal to the foreign judges.

Judging from the bookmakers’ bad odds of 35/1, the Japanese judges preference for the “cuteness” of Mizuki Kubotera (MissWorld.com/contestants) may work against her international appeal. To be blunt, Miss Japan’s overbite/small chin and her less than endowed bust may not fare well with the judges favoring Amazons from the Americas.

I wasn’t aware of the regional biases of the Miss Universe vs the Miss World contests—It turns out that the Miss World pageant (which targets the Americas) predates the Miss Universe contest (which more geared toward Europe).

Ok, she’s not ugly… For Miss “farmer market Takayama 2008″ Maybe she can fill in… But for anything else… It’s hopeless… Even Aki Hoshino might have better chances… if they avoid asking question harder than “what did you eat for breakfeast”… or “what is your favorite color of vanilia ice cream”… Make me think that I have to rush if want to buy her calendar for my loo. Theres only 6 boxes remaining at the discount shop…
It’s funny to see how Japan try to lower the bar rather than really join the competition… And risk to trigger social change in the asylum

Riyo Mori is hot, she ooozes sex appeal. Looking at the pictures of Mizuki Kubotera makes me think she’s cute, like the girl next door, the fact she has no breasts won’t help. I guess the judges chose the ideals of Japanese beauty which isn’t the same as the rest of the world, especially in a beauty contest. But saying all that, if I was given the chance, I’d do her! :P
