Floating alien bar cruisin’ Tokyo Bay

Way back in 2004, I posted about super-futuristic vessel, the “Himiko,” starting cruises in Tokyo Bay. The popular cartoon artist Leiji Matsumoto of the space opera Space Battleship Yamato designed this 114-ton silver metallic beast as a water-bus that is “appealing to children.”

Well, I guess it was was not appealing to children enough because now it renamed/repurposed the “JICOO” (the Japanese word for ‘accident’?!) and it sails on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights as …

   Japanese go out of their way to create wacky names—Yesterday I just noticed that Panahomes (Panasonic) has huge 20 x 3m signs on their subdivisions saying:
   GET A WOODY(tm).

   TOKYOMANGO: Cruise through Tokyo Bay on a floating alien ship
   This alien ship is actually a schmancy “floating bar” in Odaiba that takes you around Tokyo Bay while you sip fancy cocktails that cost $7/each.

   (The target audience of Tokyo Tower was women over 40 so I really haven’t made an effort to catch the film on Japanese TV.)
