Japanese black tie good enough to eat
Dried kelp seaweed, konbu, is often used to make soup stock in Japanese cooking. However, this loose translation of an Asahi Newspaper article of March 06, 2009 describes kelp seaweed as a black necktie that’s good enough to eat.

Asahi.com–March 06, 2009 …A black tie that really shines on a white shirt. …using konbu seaweed of the Hokkaido product..Meant as a Hokkaido souvenir, this strip of black kelp works just like a real necktie. The souvenir shop of New Chitose Airport is selling it for 1,029 yen or about $10.36 USD….Because it dries out and becomes stiff, it is difficult to use the konbu seaweed for a long time. However, they say that you, “can enjoy the black tie for cooking.”
