Toyota gearing up for a trade surplus
Depending on who you want to believe, there’s different ways to think about the present stalled Japanese economy. For example:
—The BBC says… Japan’s February exports halved
—Reuters writes… Japan marks trade surplus first time in 5 months
The fact is that Japan’s car exports are down by 70% and Japan’s postwar livelihood has been totally dependent on exports since the 60s as you can see below in a the LIFE Magazine photo of Toyota gearing up for a trade surplus.

Assembly line at Toyota Motors plant –taken in 1952 by Margaret Bourke-White for LIFE Magazine.
Margaret Bourke-White also took the first photograph of Japan’s Stargate Program in 1950…

For more info about Japan’s Stargate program, refer to the previous 3Yen reports: Stargate Mt. Fuji and the Japanese Stargate mysteriously appears.
All seriousness aside, Google has a huge collection of Japanese Japan-related LIFE Magazine photos to be enjoyed within their huge collection of LIFE Magazine photos.
