Flowers for April Fools
Traditionally in Japan when a new store opens, owners pay great attention to flower display to that celebrate the store’s first days. Added to that is the significance of April 1st—April Fools is the first day of the Japanese corporate fiscal year.

Knowing all that, it is still jarring for me to see the modern, garishly colored, brand new 7-11 convenience store with a small fortune of flowers in front of it opening today in my neighborhood.
