Japan’s Mickey Mouse government

Political graffiti against a Japanese prime minster is wildly rare for Japan. However, yesterday in Tokyo’s Shibuya, once again I stumbled across more anti-Aso graffiti stenciled on the station wall.
Welcome to the Nation of Common Sense
A translation of the Japanese on the stencil would be:
YOKOSO!TO THE COUNTRY OF COMMON SENSE
(Meaning ‘welcome’ in Japanese, YOKOSO!™, is Japan’s misguided tourism slogan.)

The joke expressed in the above graffiti is that Prime Minster Aso is famous for his embarrassing love of all things “otaku”: manga, anime, “idols,” etc. The only thing that PM Taro Aso’s administration needs is Mickey Mouse ears to be ready for his beloved Japanese Disneyland.

  1. Taro Says:

Here’s a protest “poster” of PM Aso I found posted on several Japanese blogs and websites (Japanese are much braver to post anti-anything online).
