The real ‘Miniskirt Police’ of Japan
Art Imitating Life— This is a photo of a Tokyo policewomen (aka the “Miniskirt Police”) helping conduct a bicycle safety program for children during Traffic Safety Week in the springtime.
The reason why I say that this is “Art Imitating Life” is that the more famous “Miniskirt Police” started as a late-night TV sketch in the mid 90s in Japan. The “joke” was fake police girls in miniskirts arrested men who were guilty of heinous crimes such as illegal bicycle parking as a pubic service (yonaoshi, “social improvement”). By the 2000s, the “Minisukapolice” had become a direct-to-video porn concept and yet another Japanese fad fading into Japanese cultural history. However, the Miniskirt Police live on frozen in time as a perennial favorite of Japanese cosplayers (see endless examples of cosplay here).
