Last minute wiring doesn’t delay launching Japan’s newest destroyer
A little bit of trouble with messy wiring hasn’t kept the Japanese navy from breaking its schedule for launching their newest super destroyer today.

daylife.com — YOKOHAMA, JAPAN – AUGUST 21: Japan Martime Self-Defense Force's destroyer Ise is launched at IHI Marine United Yokohama factory on August 21, 2009 in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. Ise is a 13950 ton destroyer and becomes Japan's largest…

Ok, ok, so I lied about the wiring.
Those are festive paper streamers, and the Japanese really get carried away using streamers for festive occasions like ship launches and pro-wrestling.
The new destroyer Ise is designed to handle 11 helicopters hence its “flattop” look. These ships can be considered helicopter/commando carriers and they serve the purpose of staging amphibious assaults. Needless to say, all of Japan’s Asian neighbors, especially China, are uneasy about why Japan is building new amphibious assault ships in violation of Japan’s only “self-defense” constitution.

1 Geez… the japanese army is already quite big. Get a clue…
2 last time I saw a ship with a tower on the side and a flat deck it was called an aircraft carrier… You haz more data Taro ?

The former Ise class ship was a battleship-carrier in 1944.
However now, a ship with “tower on the side and a flat deck” that is too short for anything other than helicopters and STOL/VTOL are called “helicopter/commando carriers”–See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphibious_assault_ship
Calling the Ise a “destroyer” is just a sham to work-around the Japan’s only “self-defense” constitution.
