• A collection of jellyfish is known as a smack.
• In some places jellyfish density is reported to be a hundred times higher than normal. Worst of all, no one yet understands why. One theory is that global warming is heating up the seawater and encouraging jellyfish breeding.

about the jellyfish candies, yeah, what a "big" surprise they turn something marine into something to eat...

I wish they would convert the jellyfish to a more edible protein source like the Japanese do with their fake crab meat and Kamaboko pressed fish cake.

I don't mind eating jellyfish sliced like noddles occasionally, but it's so boring nobody wants to eat on a regular basis. Cold Shredded Jellyfish ...In Japan kurage/jellyfish tastes like nothing--like unflavored jello made from fish. As a food, it's just boring.

So, why eat it?

Simple...Due to over-fishing and maybe global warming the ONLY plentiful seafood is jellyfish alone with algae and seaweed. The Japanese have wiped out everything worth eating, so all that remains to eat is jellyfish (and Japanese).

Jellyfish for lunch? It's no joke, says scientist
--As traditional fish stocks decline, some nations are turning to eating lower on the food chain--

How do you tackle an invasion of giant jellyfish? Try making sushi
