The drop of salaries in eikaiwa/ALT work is terrible. The ALT dispatch company, Interac, is posting jobs for under 200,000 yen a month using their other company names like Selti and Maxeed. They are hiring non-native speakers of English who are happy to take the lower paying jobs. Maybe 190,000 yen a month is good pay in their home countries.
Interac is apparently run by Mormons but they don’t seem to have much brotherly love when it comes to paying fair wages and obeying Japan’s labor laws.
The eikaiwa or part-time hourly rates are terrible, too. There are jobs that offer something like 1400 yen an hour. And you know these companies are collecting a heck of a lot more from their students than that.
Read my 3yen post:
“Thinking of teaching in Japan? Don’t bother” (Amen!)
The Interac Mormons have been flooding the recruiting channels with job ads recently, which I just happened to misread today…
