McDonald’s Japan takes a big dump

In unsurprising news, McDonald’s is taking a big dump of its excessive number of outlets here in Japan…
McDonald’s to close hundreds of outlets in Japan

— McDonald’s Corp. is closing 430 restaurants in Japan, the latest sign of the faltering economy in the Asian country. A 50% owned affiliate will shutter the locations over the next 12 to 18 months…more…
…Having two or three MacD’s outlets next to one train station is typical here in Tokyo. The weirder thing in Japan are micro-McDonald’s that are only two arm’s width wide.

“In 2000, [Jonathan Berr] won the Gerald Loeb Award, one of the most prestigious prizes in business journalism.”
So I take it that the author of that McDonld’s Japan article, Jonathan Berr, won his prestigious Gerald Loeb Award by being the business journalist who makes the most shit up.

Yes, come to think of it, MacD’s Japan has never served “wassabi [sic] burgers” or “sukiyaki burgers” claimed in the article’s author, Jonathan Berr, winner of the Gerald Loeb Award.
Maybe Mr. Berr confused just confused Japan with Singapore.

Maybe the journalist-cum-novelist, Mr. Berr, has discovered a new Japanese horror, Boiled Burgers(tm).
That is, if there was such a thing as a “sukiyaki burger,” the burgers would have to be soaked in soy sauce, sugar, and mirin and then dipped in a small bowl of raw, beaten eggs as it is done in the method of sukiyaki cooking.
Or, maybe he confused “sukiyaki” (semi-boiled beef) with teriyaki (sauce for grilled meat and whatnot). Teriyaki burgers are on the new MacDonald’s menu and teriyaki sauce has been used before on their burgers in Japan.
