Quality vs Toyota and GM
Mr. Den4, 3Yen’s correspondent-at-large writes:
Listen to this National Public Radio podcast of how Toyota showed GM how to make a quality car in the US, created a car plant named NUMMI. It explains how GM’s management (through interviews with former GM workers) systematically failed to learn the lesson Toyota was trying to teach them until it was too late….
….and ironically, how Toyota learned from GM how to make defective cars that now is giving Toyota headaches in the PR world.

This podcast one of the better episodes, and it shows the same defective mindset that is plaguing Wall Street and other major corporations in the US, including HP.

all those broken cars in the us where made in the us, by us workers…
no problems like those in europe…
maybe the workers are just plain incompetent ^^

Apparently some of the parts were made in Canada, so it may also be an American (ie North American) problem, and not just a US problem….then again, after working at several major US corp., the thinking seems to be that if I’m in my comfort zone, I don’t need to change it, even if it causes the loss of my job as a result….but as far as incompetence, I think the govmint of all nations have this problem, not just US workers…. :P

Sadly a lot of the problems Toyota now has as do to crappy repair service manuals, Whether it is a 8000cc Bugatti Veyron or a Suzuki “Carry” 500cc truck, knowing what has gone wrong with the vehicle, and whether you can perform the repairs yourself, is helpful for so many reasons. A good service repair manual will make it easier to drive with confidence, knowing that you have all the information you need to make the repair job less stressful, and possibly less expensive.
