‘Green Cola’ — summer swamp soda of Japan
In my constant quest to find a stronger flavored cola for my favorite summer drink, the Blessed Holy Beverage, Rum-and-Coke, I end up drinking some “innovative” Japanese products like Pepsi Baobab™ (right) cola, Cucumber Cola*, fresh Basil Pepsi* and the dread red bean favored Azuki Pepsi* which only tastes marginally better than steamed zebra testicles*.
For the summer season, Asahi Japan is marketing Green Cola™
(below), so I just had to buy some to give it a try with rum.

Ok, ok, I lied about Green Cola being green. As you can see above, it looks more like brown bog water…and sadly it tastes like it too.
According to the Asahi Corp. website, they put Green Cola™ on the market late last May as what they termed an “adults carbonate” [sic]. Asahi brags that their cola is, “zero caffeine, zero preservatives, and no artificial coloring since they use a dark, black malt for its color. However, certainly does not have zero calories since it contains plenty of controversial high-fructose corn syrup.
