Ukiyo-e heros
“Den4,” the 3Yen’s correspondant-at-large, reminded us today about these traditional Japanese prints, ukiyo-e, re-imagined as heros of Nintendo games such as The Legend of Zelda below…
Here’s a video of the Tokyo woodblock printmaker Bull-san going through the basic process of cutting one of the wood blocks for making an ukiyo-e style print of Jed’s ‘Rickshaw Cart’ design.

This all makes sense—in a going in a great circle kind of way—since Japanese humorous painted scrolls and caricatures by ukiyo-e artists lead to modern comics and animation and ultimately video games.
