Soviet Japan
Friend of the 3Yen, Mr. Yanpa, just wrote saying he was, “Clearing out some old photos… Taken in 2008, probably still there…”
..
Damned if he wasn’t right that long after TIME magazine, CBS News, ABC News, et al have abandoned their Tokyo offices, but the old Soviet TASS, The Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union, still has its sleepy sign up here in Tokyo…
TASS has now changed its name to the Information Telegraph Agency of Russia and goes by the abbreviation ITAR-TASS (Russian: ИТАР-ТАСС). However, abandoned-looking their Tokyo Bureau (at 1-5-1 Honmachi Shibuya-ku, 151-0077) appears, I am sure they are still busy with their primary mission of “information gathering.”

That’s a remarkably big compound for a news gathering operation…

I am sure that ИТАР-ТАCC is still busy with their primary mission of “information gathering.”
The satellite view shows a tony neighborhood that’s just around the corner from the “secret” West Gate of Meiji Shrine.
