Christmas Illuminations in Tokyo’s Marunouchi?

Yikes! On Thursday night there was a “Test Illumination” for Christmas 2012 in Tokyo’s downtown Marunouchi district. Damn, talk about pushing the Xmas season in a decidedly non-Christian country. These are preparations for the official “Marunouchi Illumination 2012″ that starts Monday October 1st and that will drag out for 140 days until February 17, 2013.

Oh, don’t worry about those pesky nuclear power issues.
This Marunouchi Illumination uses special, hi-tech, micro-LED bulbs that are powered by the cold-fusion farts of Santa’s reindeer.
Using about 1.01 million “champagne gold” colored LED bulbs, this illumination will, “shed soft light as winter approaches and the leaves that obscure the lights fall from the trees (news.walkerplus.com).”

There is plenty of waste here…yet many of the hand dryers are unplugged and blocked off in restrooms. Save power moneys!

Street fairs and temple festival s being part of the greatest parts of Japan; seeing them from NYC makes me yearn for some yakisoba and a beer. Thanks for your pictures!
