Is a sense of balance in business important? Balls for chairs in the workplace
YOMIURI ONLINE (Google Translate) Oct. 23, 2012
The entire office staff of Nakano Pharmaceuticals now must work seated on balance balls. Exercise ball-chairs are placed throughout the company’s offices, conference rooms, and dining rooms.
Located in Kyoto Japan, Nakano Pharmaceutical manufacturers hair cosmetics for beauty salons.
Company president Kotaro Nakano (age 52) was suffering from low back pain and his fitness club recommended he should to sit on a ball-chair, “to strengthen his back muscles.” Since his condition became so remarkably better, last April, president Nakano introduced the balance balls in all the offices of the company except laboratories.
The purchase amounted to a total of 400 balance balls for use in the Kyoto head office as well as in the company’s factory in Shiga Prefecture and their Tokyo branch. Each ball cost 2000 yen [$25 USD] and is 75 cm [30 inches] in diameter.
