Since 2008, Japan’s largest supermarket, Aeon, Co. has been offering its “special” Beaujolais Nouveau in 750-ml plastic bottles instead of glass.
Do to such cost-cutting measures and the strong yen, Beaujolais Nouveau has been discounted to 1,600 yen ($20 USD) a plastic bottle, well below average price in Japan of 2,500 yen ($31 USD).
