Sometimes you can find the most interesting things on Google Street Japan.
740-1 Tatedaionji-machi, Nakagyo, Kyoto, Japan
Kool! At first I thought it was a Moai—a tacky Tiki Building!
However according to Architectstudio3d.org, this is the ‘Face House’ (1974) by architect Kazumasa Yamashita.
When the architect Kazumasa Yamashita was hired to build this house on a dreary street in downtown Kyoto, he decided to have fun and make it stand apart from the neighboring conventional houses. The first floor of this building houses a studio for a graphic designer, and apartments are located on the second and top floors. The building itself acts as a billboard for the graphic designer.
Sadly, it appears the studio on the ground floor is unused and is just a junk room.
